Starting Wednesday, May 5, The RogerWaters.com presale of tickets began. Those
who signed up for a drawing or lottery for preferred tickets sold from Roger's
new official website, were notified by email, and could purchase a pair of
tickets. At about $275.00 per ticket that's an expensive pair of tickets (you
were not able to just buy one).
Starting Thursday, May 6, U.S. fans were able to purchase presale tickets via
iTunes. If you purchased the 1982 film The Wall from iTunes by April 26. you
would have received a code via email on May 3rd, good for purchasing presale
tickets. Both the American Express and iTunes presales were available only in
select markets and ticket quantities were limited.
VIP PACKAGE INFORMATION
Though tickets did not go on sale until Monday, May 10,
a limited number of special VIP experience packages were made available on Thursday, May 6.
Interested fans have two package options to choose from.
Option One, the Roger Waters Official Party Package, includes the following:
Option Two, the Roger Waters The Wall Premium Package, will include:
Once again, these packages will be available via
Ticketmaster beginning on Thursday, May 6.
Unfortunately, the pricing for these VIP Ticket packages are extremely expensive,
about $500.00 for the Premium package and about $750.00 for the Official Party
package. So a word to the wise; if you aren't already independently wealthy or
well off, don't go deeper into debt, or hock your family heirlooms, or rip off
your kids college fund to get these VIP packs. You'll likely enjoy yourself just
as much with $80.00 tickets as you will with $750.00 tickets.
For questions pertaining to these packages, please contact
Ticketmaster Customer Service.
GENERAL TICKET SALES - OR
I have received hundreds of complaints
about Ticketmaster (who last year purchased Live Nation their biggest competitor) from Roger's fans for the past 10 years!. The Ticketmaster tactics and
policies of discrimination and aligning themselves with the more well off fans by
giving preference and better seating to American Express Gold card holders as well as
their complete indifference to the satisfaction of any of their customers, has
become symbolic of huge greedy international corporations interested in profit
alone over anything else. They are worse than ticket scalpers and on a massive
scale. I hate the company and strongly advocate ticket purchases from any of the many other
online ticket agencies. For those who can afford to puchase the best seats, please
follow the
TicketsNow links for each show of the North American tour.
The
TicketsNow
brokers are a trusted company and have the best seats, but be warned
that their prices are NOT cheap!!
WARNING!! During the 2007 North American Tour, REG received several complaints about International
ticket brokers named Worldticketshop and TicketWorld! They had sold tickets for North American shows to many of Roger's European fans.
Many of the fans were promised that their
tickets would arrive before they left to travel to the US for the shows, but then were informed at the last minute that their
tickets could not be sent in time, or that there tickets would arrive at their destination, but then never arrived.
I'm sorry, but with International next day FedEx and DHL, there's no
excuse for tickets not arriving in time or could not be sent to a specified destination. So I doubt that these tickets ever existed in the first place.
These tickets were sold for hundreds of dollars each, and
I can only think that these agency's are perpetuating an internet scam! Do NOT buy tickets from these brokers! If you ordered tickets from them, contact your
credit card company to complain and cancel your order. If you were thinking of buying tickets from
them... don't do it. If you can't find tickets for a show anywhere else, there should be plenty of
tickets from scalpers available before the show if the
price is right.
As in past and recent tours, there may be last minute changes in
the itinerary such as a change in venue or even cancellations, and a possibility
of more shows to be announced. So please be prepared for any eventuality, and
stay tuned to the REG website for any updates.
A third show at the Madison Square Garden in New York City has been confirmed for November 6.
TICKET PRESALES -
Starting May 3, American Express Cardmembers were able to get advance tickets,
with seating available to Gold Card, Platinum Card and Centurion members.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, May 10, via
Ticketmaster and
LiveNation.com

New Roger Waters Song and Video
Recorded just days before the Gaza Freedom March, Roger Waters has released his new song and video WE SHALL OVERCOME. The video, which has been posted on YouTube, can be seen and heard on the REG - Roger Waters Fan Club website. The song was inspired by the plight of the Palestinians in achieving a separate state of Palestine, and the horrors of the war and blockade against them by Israel.
Under the YouTube video, Roger Waters writes:
"Over the new year 2009-2010, an international group of 1500 men and women from 42 nations went to Egypt to join a Freedom March to Gaza. They did this top protest the current blockade of Gaza. To protest the fact that the people of Gaza live in a virtual prison. To protest the act that a year after the terror attack by Israeli armed forces destroyed most of their homes, hospitals, schools and other public building, they have no possibility to rebuild because their borders are closed. The would be Freedom Marchers wanted to peacefully draw attention to the predicament of the Palestinian population of Gaza. The Egyptian government, (funded to the tune of $2.1 billion a year, by us, the US tax payers), would not allow the marchers to approach Gaza. How lame is that? And how predictable! I live in the USA and during this time, Dec. 25th 2009 - Jan. 3rd 2010, I saw no reference to Gaza or the Freedom March or the multi-national protesters gathered there. Anyway, I was moved, in the circumstances, to record a new version of "We Shall Overcome". It seems appropriate."

Many thanks to G.E. Smith: lead guitar and Thor Jonsson, drum programming and whatever. Thanks guys!!!

And now piracy!!!!!!!!!
The video begins with an out of focus shot of Palestinian refugees huddled against a wall, as an Israeli soldier with machine gun patrols in the background. A link of barbed wire stand out in focus in the foreground.
The title screen of the film states: Roger Waters - "We Shall Overcome" in small print and "End The Blockade of Gaza" in large lettering.
The song is loosely played to the tune of the original song "We Shall Overcome" which became an anthem of the US civil rights movement. The lyrics were derived from the refrain of a gospel song by Charles Albert Tindley, and was first published in the People's Song Bulletin in 1947. Roger Waters' version alters the lyrics somewhat.
The song in the video begins with Roger strumming the rhythm chords of an acoustic guitar, as an acoustic lead guitar is overdubbed. Roger begins singing the first verse of the song. Then Roger can be seen overdubbing with bass guitar. Strings are added after the first chorus, then piano and drums join the instrumentation. Midway through the song, an electric guitar lead separates chorus and verse.
Intermingled with video of Roger playing and singing are video's of the Israeli Wall, razorwire barbed wire, ruins of buildings in Gaza demolished by rocket and bomb attacks, the carnage of dead bodies lying strewn across the ground, and refugees fleeing the fighting. As Roger continues to sing with headphones on in the studio, the video's turn on a positive note as Israeli and Palestinian children walk hand in hand.
As Roger sings of tearing down the prison walls, more video of the "Israeli Separation Barrier" and barbed wire are shown, as Palestinians queue to get through the gates in-between The Wall.
Also shown are scenes from the Freedom March to Gaza in Egypt. One sign at a demonstration reads: "Those who stand up for justice are always on the right side of history." Another scene shows Palestinians and other peoples of the world coming together in camaraderie, as the scene cuts away to show the anguished look on the face of an 18 year old Israeli soldier as he briefly stares into the camera with the eyes of a young innocent who doesn't understand exactly why he's doing what he's doing.
The video ends with the hope seen in the eyes of Palestinian and Israeli children as Roger ends the song in the studio.
We Shall Overcome (Lyrics)
We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day
Deep in my heart
I do believe
That we shall overcome some day
And we'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand one day
Deep in my heart
I do believe
That we'll walk hand in hand one day
And we'll break down the prison walls
We will tear down those prison walls
Together we will tear down the prison walls on that day
Deep in my heart
I do believe
That we will tear down all those prison walls on that day
Deep in my heart
I do believe
That we will tear down all those prison walls on that day
And the truth will set us free
The truth will set us free
The truth will set us all free on that day
And deep in my heart
I do believe
That the truth will set us all free on that day
And we shall overcome on that day

On Saturday July 10th, David Gilmour and Roger Waters performed together at a charity event in aid of the Hoping Foundation (http://www.hopingfoundation.org), an organization supporting hope and optimism for the Palastinians of the next generation.
The event was oranized by Bella Freud and Karma Nabulsi and took place at Kiddington Hall, a country estate in Oxfordshire England
Roger Waters and David Gilmour performed 4 songs together, "To Know Him Is To Love Him" (regularly played at Pink Floyd sound checks), "Wish You Were Here," "Comfortably Numb," and "Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2."
The band consisted of Roger on acoustic and bass guitar, Dave on Lead electric guitar, Guy Pratt on bass, Harry Waters on Keyboards, Andy Newmark on drums, Chester Kamen on guitar and Jonjo Grisdale on keyboards.
David Gilmour and Roger Waters performed for only 200 people and raised £350,000 for the Hoping Foundation charity.
While instilling hope is a main focus of the Hoping Foundation charity, and many around the world continue to have hope and optimism for the Palestinian people, most Floyd fans began to lose hope that Dave and Roger would ever play together again. And while hope springs eternal, with Roger Waters scheduled to begin his tour of The Wall in only 2 months, most fans can't help but begin to wonder and hope that Dave just might be persueded to play a show or two with Roger, or perhaps join in on the entire tour. Of course if that were to happen, Nick might asked to join in as well, and of course the tour name would have to be changed to Pink Floyd The Wall! Nah... never happen! But then, that's what I thought pre-Live 8. I guess we should never lose hope, huh?
What did I say??? Never lose hope??? Well less than a week after the performance Roger Waters posted the story of how this get together came about, with a promise of an appearance of David Gilmour playing Comfortably Numb at one of Roger's shows. Might he even play more than one show?? In any case, I guess hope does spring eternal. Here is what Roger said happened.
"So here's what happened. Last year, 'The Hoping Foundation' a charity that supports Palestinian refugee kids, (www.hopingfoundation.org) put on a fund raiser at Ronnie Scott's Club in London, the idea of which was to raise money by auctioning karaoke performances by various celebrities. David was there as a supporter and was moved to perform an impromptu rendition of George Gershwin's 'Summertime?' which he performed aided and abetted by supermodel Kate Moss.
"In the wake of that evening, someone, I think it was David himself, came up with this 'Wouldn't it be funny', idea. What if he were to sing the old Teddy Bears song 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' with me, what with us having been so famously at each other's throats for years and years. Get it!!!! Anyway he E-mailed me with this suggestion and I loved it, so then it was just a question of juggling dates and deciding to do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Comfortably Numb' to round out our little set. Or so I thought, until he sent me a number of very musical and eloquent demos of how we could do the song in two-part harmony. I listened with a sinking heart, knowing that David, with his superior vocal skills, could sing either part standing on his head, whilst I would have to search for a different key and then struggle through hours and hours of routining a performance that lay way outside my vocal comfort zone. To my eternal shame I bottled out and told Dave I would happily do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'C. Numb', but that 'To Know him is to Love him' was beyond me.
"Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until one day he made one final entreaty. I quote "If you do 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I'll come and do 'C. Numb' on one of your Wall shows". Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather. How fucking cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn't, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shite, but if he didn't mind I didn't, I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.
Roger
"PS. Just heard from David, he will decide in due course which gig he wants to do, it will be a surprise!"

From Roger Waters page on Facebook:
I want to clarify something that has come up recently. In a recent news item, Abraham Foxman, head of the anti-defamation league (ADL), accuses my new production of "The Wall" and by implication me, of anti-Semitism.
Had he come to my show before passing judgment and commenting publicly, he might have held his peace. The song to which he refers, "Goodbye Blue Sky", describes how we, the military and civilians alike, suffer trauma in the aftermath of war.
The visual that accompanies the song shows waves of B52 bombers dropping various symbols from bomb bays on a war ravaged landscape. The symbols are, in no particular order, a Crucifix, a Hammer and sickle, a Star of David, A Crescent and Star, a Mercedes sign, a dollar sign, and a Shell Oil sign.
There are no hidden meanings in the order or juxtaposition of these symbols as Mr. Foxman asserts. The point I am trying to make is that the bombardment we are all subject to by conflicting religious, political, and economic ideologies only encourages us to turn on one another.
In so far as "The Wall" has a political message it seeks only to illuminate and encourage peace and cooperation. Incidentally, being from England, I had never heard of the ADL until today, but I have googled them and I see from their mission statement of 1913 that their brief is not only to defend the Jewish people from defamation, but also, " to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens".
Why don't we all focus on that lofty ideal and stop throwing stones at one another.
