(It is in this recently published interveiw that Roger Waters states he won't be
touring in 2001. Though this short interview, printed in the February 2nd, 2001
issue of the German magazine AUDIO, may have been an excerpt of a earlier longer
article and interview done for the German magazine Gitarre & Bass. Please understand
I am not as proficient in English as I would like, so some wordings may not be exact however I have
tried to be as accurate as possible in my translation. So now here is the Audio Magazine Roger Waters
Interview.)
Audio Mag : The CD 'In The Flesh' documents your first concerts in 12 years. What brought you back again to the stage? Roger Waters: I accepted my situation. After I left Pink Floyd, I've gone through hard times. Most of the people didn't recognize me. Audio Mag : Did that hurt you? Roger Waters: Of course! When I toured in 1987 with the album 'Radio KAOS', I had a wonderful band with me, but the concerts were rarely well attended - Pink Floyd played at the same time in stadiums. That truly hurt. Audio Mag : Then you retired? Roger Waters: Therefore I became more relaxed - and because of psychotherapy over the years. I discovered an autonomy, that has been absolutely strange for me - because I never had a father. That's the reason, why I always submitted to any woman. |

So you don't need anymore the subject of 'The Wall' - an impenetrable wall?
Roger Waters:
I'm much more happy than any time with Pink Floyd. David Gilmour always tried to knock me out, by pretending, I'm good in visual things, but a miserable musician. Until I finally believed it by myself.
Audio Mag :
Will there always be animosity between the two of you? HavenŐt you felt the necessity to talk with Gilmour about it?
Roger Waters:
My life is too short to invest in something that will perhaps last for ever. So, for what?
Audio Mag :
You've been a strong team, actually.
Roger Waters:
Yes, between 1968, when he joined the band, and 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. Afterwards it became more difficult. Nevertheless we made another 3 records. Oh, stop, there have been 4. I almost forgot 'The Wall' (laughs).
Audio Mag :
What do you think about the Floyd-Reissues and other stuff?
Roger Waters:
I find them inelegant. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it. The back catalogue is owned by Pink Floyd Music Ltd., every member shares 25 percent. So I can be outvoted in every meeting - that's what actually happens every time. That's the reason why I don't attend them anymore.
Audio Mag :
Will you tour with your show 'In The Flesh' in Germany?
Roger Waters:
Certainly! Plans have been laid out for summer 2001, but Andy Fairweather-Low is touring with Eric Clapton. So I have to wait until 2002. There's perhaps time to record another album.
