From REG Issue #18

ow that the Waters/Gilmour wars are over, many many long time Pink Floyd fans, (especially fans of Roger Waters), no matter how much they love the guitar playing of Dave Gilmour, can not see it in their conscience to call a band Pink Floyd which does not have Roger Waters as an integral part.
The creative music, and the cynical byte of Roger's voice and lyrics , along with the vocals and fantastic creative guitar of Dave Gilmour was what made up the Pink Floyd sound. This is no longer the case with the present Pink Floyd. Today, Pink Floyd has Dave's voice and unbelievable guitar work, but it lacks Roger's musical and lyrical prose as well as his vocals. And Rogers solo work definitely lacks Dave's virtuous and undeniably superb guitar and vocals. So to paraphrase Dave, '...where do we go from here?'

Well Pink Floyd Lives!!!!

Pink Floyd is alive and well in our minds, and in our hearts and yes, also in our ears and on our stereo's!!! The Division Bell, is the best and most creative and "Pink Floyd" like album Dave's version of Pink Floyd has yet created. Amused to Death is the best and most creative and "Pink Floyd" like album Roger Waters, as a solo artist, has yet created. Well, if the essence of what was "Pink Floyd" is Roger's and Dave's capabilities and talents put together, what then would happen if you put the music they make individually together, would you not get Pink Floyd??? I did this to see what it would sound like. And what I got was even a surprise to me. Low and behold Pink Floyd!!! The Pink Floyd of old was reborn on my stereo. It was unbelievable!! Though, if Roger were dead, would probably roll over in his grave at the thought, combining Amused to Death and The Division Bell into one album on two cassette tapes gives you a double Pink Floyd album like you've not heard since Ummagumma or The Wall.

Try it, you'll like it!! Though Roger's concept album becomes a bit disconnected by Dave's songs and the segues between the two, overall the flow of the songs is surprisingly cogent and enjoyable. Many times the songs seem to flow into one another as if they were meant to come right after the other! This is what I did; I didn't have to change the progression of the song trackings at all, I just recorded one or two songs from each album, one after the other, in the order in which I felt they would sound best, in the sequence that they are played on their respective albums, and voile. The following is the track listing for the new album which I title:

Pink Floyd
"Amused by Division".

  1. Cluster
  2. The Ballad of Bill Hubbard
  3. What God Wants Pt. 1
  4. What Do You Want From Me
  5. Perfect Sense Pt. 1
  6. Perfect Sense Pt. 2
  7. Poles Apart
  8. The Bravery of Being Out of Range
  9. Late Home Tonight Pt. 1
  10. Late Home Tonight Pt. 2
  11. Marooned
  12. Too Much Rope
  13. A Great Day For Freedom
  14. What God Wants Pt. 2
  15. Wearing the Inside Out
  16. What God Wants Pt. 3
  17. Take It Back
  18. Coming Back To Life
  19. Watching TV
  20. Three Wishes
  21. Keep Talking
  22. It's A Miracle
  23. Lost For Words
  24. High Hopes
  25. Amused To Death

Really, though, all you Pink Floyd fans, (Gilmour fans as well as Waters fans!) check this out, it might surprise you just what the combination of Dave and Roger's music can sound like, what it once sounded like, and what it can sound like again, at least on our stereo's. Roger and Dave together, the true sound of Pink Floyd!!!
Hope you like it.
