Just a little about me: First thing, sorry for my written English because I'm Portuguese,
but I think you can read it. I'm 35 years old and when The Wall (movie) came
out and for about 4-5 years of my life I went to the cinema maybe 30 times to watch it.
By then I was also listening to Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Supertramp, Genesis, Frank Zappa and
Bob Marley...
No doubt I'm a Pink Floyd fan but the days have passed and a lot of music
and other bands have came and gone. Some were out already popular or famous but I discovered
them latter...
For me, when Genesis broke up I said great... Now we have a great band
Genesis and another great, great Peter Gabriel... When Final Cut was out and Pink Floyd broke up,
I said NO ... Pink Floyd is finished ... For me Pink Floyd's soul is Roger Waters ...
The years went by and a few years ago Pink Floyd came to Lisbon and all my
friends said I had to come to the show and I said NO
These Guys should be ashamed of using that bands name ... Now Roger Waters came and I said to them...
Let's go... Now It's the real
thing ... And they go NO... why, to listen to "The Pros and Cons..." They where wrong...
The Show: Lisboa - Pavilhão Atlântico - 5th Mai 2002 - Day II
This was a special day in Lisbon... A Lisbon Soccer team "Sporting" (witch
is my team) was champion of the Portuguese league and the party was to be
500m away from Pavilhão Atlântico... There was magic in the air...
I arrived at the place at 21:20mn for a show that had a starting time at
21:30mn, the venue was full... Maybe 20.000 people??? I do not know how
many people can fit in the Atlantic Pavillion...
At 21:40mn (10 mn delay) the lights went out and "In the Flesh" went up ...
They had a 10mn break and ended as 00:30mn, so we had about 2:40 non stop
show ...
This was the best live sound I have ever heard... And I've seen a few...
Prince, Genesis, David Bowie, Elton John, Dire Straits, Bryan Adams, Bon
Jovi, Alanis Morissette, Guns and Roses, etc. etc. maybe 20 more ... The set
list was just like in the double CD live album... but with mutch
better sound !!!
I'm a musician with a Band and I think of myself as having very special
skills, so can critique the tecnical part of the show ... For me there where only 2 mistakes... One very short feed back by one of
the lady singers that for a moment held the mic with her hand, and the
begining of the song "Time ???" where the drumer started the sequencer, and RW
started the bass out of the beat for 2 of 3 beats. But the drummer just faded
out the sequencer, and started it up again on the correct beat... Maybe I was the
only one to notice this but I must tell you I was amased to see the way the
problem was solved...
The Stage decor and the on screen projections are simple and brilliant... It was the best Live Gig
I have ever seen ... And one thing was proved beyond doubt... that Roger Waters is Pink Floyd...
You only missed David Gilmour's guitar...sometimes. With the present Pink Floyd you have Gilmour's
guitar but you miss all the rest ...
Thank you very much ...for the info regarding Waters' Birthday being born
George Roger Waters in Great Bookham, Surrey, England, Sept. 6, 1943. So he's 58 going 59
and a Virgo ... like me ...!!! My last name "Aguas" means Waters in English ...!!!
Best wishes,
Diogo Aguas

Good luck for the next
concert

P.S.- Answer me,if you don't mind

I'm only sad because I did not take a photo from my encounter with Roger Waters backstage before the gig!! By the way Roger, hope you liked the Portuguese history book I gave you!! It was an unusual gift I suppose, but it was offered with lots of admiration and respect from me!!
The show was amazing!! I just can not put in words whats in my mind, even after 3 months!! It was the show of a lifetime!! I dont want to talk about the specifics of the show, because everyone have already done that!! I just want do say 2 things that I dont remember being a focus in other reviews:
Thanks
Joao Pinto
