It all started with a run from the subway station to the gigantic Foro Solfilled to its capacity... just as we
entered the lights turned off and "In the Flesh" part 2 exploded with Roger above the band... From that
moment onwe, the crowd, became part of the show, as for me I started to cry...
"Another Brick in the
Wall" were performed..."Mother" we sang...the Final Cut's songs, "Get your filthy hands..." and "Southampton
Dock" were beautifully performed... In "DOGS", the guys played poker, the guitar solo (wewere singing it).
THE SOUND, the quadraphonic sound made you turn your head to find where the dogs barking, the
laughter, explosions and all the effects where coming from. We were in the middle of it all... and above usa
helicopterlighting the crowd... the visionary "Welcome to the Machine"... and then everybody just waiting to
shout "SO, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN TELL" at the begining guitar chords of you know whichsong... "Crazy
Diamond" with the image of Syd getting closer until you where inside of him. A real tribute to the man that
started it all with his vision and sound..."Set the controls" composed one year before I was born... thenwhen
you thought you heard it all, another ritual in its own right"The Dark Side of the Moon" songs. We all ticked
away the moments...
His solo work set was amazing, deeply performed, one could feel Rogers emotions
through his voice. Fans of Floyd and people, who for the first time heard him, were perplexed by the sound of
his voice and the way he put his heart into his interpretation. Until then, to me, the concert had been a
constant, uninterrupted climax. But then came "Perfect Sense" and everything went nuts, the way he and
the girls sang and the band played, just as he fires two, and the oilrig tower explodes and Roger finally is
smiling with his arms in the air inviting everyone to join. A real moment of victory.
Right then my friends fell
apart and started to cry in disbelief! Young people, older people they all knew the songs, they all cheered. It
was a communion between Roger and the band, and three generations! For once, we all came together. By the
time Comfortably Numb was in its climax, with both guitarist complementing each other and becoming one,
the crowd and the band knew this was a special night.
Flickering flame was performedaccompanied by
thousands of lighters lighting on and off at the rhythm of the song. I noticedHarry Waterswatching in awe of
the spectacle and quickly informing one of his bandmates to observe it. The concert! was over andI was
hypnotised for two days until now that I woke up and remembered what I was a part of... The Happiest Days
Of Our Lives.....
What a concert!!!...More than that.. a ritual!!...Forme a fan ofFloyd since I was 6 this was the most
incredibly experience I've had in a concert in my life and I've seen many includingPink Floyds94 tour...

The Day finally arrived, and it was unbelievable (I could not belive what I have experienced actually). So many years, all those songs grown within every fan. That made the atmosphere very very strong and special.
The show exploded with "In The Flesh" and "Another Brick in the Wall" ...I saw the years of my life passing by in a few seconds. The magic of his pressence hypnotized everyone of the about 50,000 souls there at Foro Sol. It was a dream become reality to see him performing "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Wish You Were Here" (I loved how he sang twice "we are just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl...," and "Welcome to the Machine". The musicans are excelent, they played every song flawless.
After a break they came back to play songs from "Dark Side of the Moon". Everybody sang them, espeacially "Money". Then some songs from Amused to Death which were awesome. And then "Comfortably Numb" (I almost cried).
When many people thought the show was ending they came back and said "...this is
a song about Freedom" and he played "The Flickering Flame" as the final encore.
After almost 3 hours of listening to those songs I grew up with, I felt like I was in
other world. I'll never forget this emotive night.
I can not find the word capable to describe the show in Mexico City, what I can say is that definitively was a trip; a trip to my memories-my senses, a trip to events and places narrated by Roger, to set the controls for a trip to the dark side of the moon, to tear down the wall, to love animals, to make the final cut, to wish all of you were here, to think about the pros and cons of amuse myself to death, and think about the flickering flames.
I had to wait over 25 years to meet this guy, (when the WYWH -vinyl-record came to me as a gift) I witnessed the 'surrogate' band during Pulse tour, but THE big gear was missing.
Me and my wife flew about 1000 miles (from the north of Mexico) to attend to this event, and We were not disappointed at all. The 'Foro Sol' was fully packed, and the press says that there were close to 50,000 people at the show.
ITF 2002, started just on time, sharp (so don't be late, take your seat at least 15 minutes before it starts). 30 minutes before it began, the logo of the tour was projected in the stage (The pig).
All the guys on stage were excellent, I was little (very) curious about Chester Kamen, but all of you waiting to see him will be very happily surprised at his skills and the feelin' with which he plays the guitar (Great understanding with Snowy and Andy), not to mention his vocal contributions to the songs. He simply fit into this group of talented musicians - and singers (Because those ladies, really sing, their voices are just another music instrument to add to the show). The same thing can be said for Harry; he is a very talented player.
Roger spoke very few words to the audience, but heartly thanked all of us for attending ("Thank you for coming to see us, really thank you") hitting His chest with His right fist, before he announced that they would play "a new song, previously played in some of the shows, that speaks about freedom - The Flickering Flame". Then guys, what happened here was something amazing. The audience were flicking their lighter flames up and down following the beat of the song, so the entire Foro (Forum) was a flickering flame! I can not describe the feeling of watching this happening, and it really surprised Roger and the crew.
Another thing that was really great was the Helicopter that appeared when "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" was starting, and it kept on coming flying during some other songs of the concert. And something that really impressed me (and most of the audience) was Roger performing (acting) as a Submarine Commander, watching thru a 'imaginary' periscope during "Perfect Sense II", then following the narration from Marv Albert, firing shots to an oil rig.....then BOOM!!! A big explosion on the back screen. A Great performance by Rog.
If you plan, or are thinking about goin' to the show; it is
definitively a must; as it all makes perfect sense.

I grew up just hearing of the band "Pink Floyd". But I was careless then, about who they were, which were their names, what did they think. I remember rainy nights (I don't know why) in my uncle's room listening to some of those records. My father was also there and because of him I was introduced to the band. Then, when I became a teenager, I re-discovered the band. I went deeper then. The meanings of the lyrics made sense to me, it was a very important event to me as a person.
Before this discovery, an important event took place, I went to the Pink Floyd show they performed here back in 1994, without Roger. For me it was like a picture, and it is that image I have thought of, the many years since then.
It was not until a friend showed me that Waters had recorded many albums apart from the band, that I listened to them and I liked what I heard. Though I know more of him now, I wasn't very very sure about my reactions to this guy when I saw him live, and what would it be like...
It was like magic! From the first song the crowd started to shout, to clap, to joint ;), to remember... TO BE HAPPY! This feeling was contagious and spread to all the crowd. We were sure that we would never see and end to it all.
The highlights of the show, I must admit, were the Floyd songs, yet the audience also recognized and sang the Waters' creations after his Pink Floyd era.All the songs were sung by at least a thousand voices, I don't knowhow so manypeople found his own anthem in one of Roger's songs. Personally, mine is Time, though many others found their individual anthem in some other song.
Youth and maturity met in the stadium. ThoughI think some of those kidsdidn't
deserve to be there,I was happyfacing the fact that, that music was going to be
alive and heard byother generations.
6.40: At the entrance there were several vendors, a variety of stuff, such as shirts, photos, magazines, and some portraits and photos of different bands such as The Beatles, The Doors, (that don't have anything in relation with Floyd or Waters), binoculars just to see the head of the person in front, a lot of stuff, a lot of people buying, a lot of vendors with no idea of the magnitude of the concert they were selling stuff at, but there they were. I decided to wait until the end of the concert to buy something (or not to buy anything).
6.50:I decided to smuggle in a recorder, mmmm... not such an easy thing cause security was a little bit complicated and strict.
6.55: A friend of mine entered and we passed the recorder through a hole. I think a security guy watched us passing the recorder. I think, maybe he just was gay and stood looking at us for a long time. Maybe I was paranoid and there was no security guy... but the recorder got past the frontier between mortal people and those who were just there to see Roger Waters.
7.40: Some snacks, some people just waiting for the concert, others searching for their places, a good experience.
8.45: The lights turned off, souls turned in. No words to describe the moment. When he started playing The Happiest Days of Our Lives, the tears began falling, amazing, the crowd singing and shouting the song, amazing.. The next part of the set was also incredible beginning with 'Mother' and his sarcastic "Mama should I trust the government?"
Dogs... Wow! Incredible! Amazing! mmmm... at the middle of the song, a poker game, a shout from someone: Hey you, we came here to watch you sing not to watch you playing cards. Funny thing. Then the Wish you Were Here set was also amazing, and was what I was waiting for. The complete 'Shine on...' I think was the best song of all the concert.
Then a break. And then, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, was also without description. The Dark Side set was also one of my favorites; Brain Damage and Eclipse were just great. In this part of the concert there was a funny smell in the atmosphere, jajaja someone said it was marihuana. Others were not paying attention to the smell... others were arguing... ok anything goes, but then came COMFORTABLY NUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOWWWWW.... what an amazing song, it was terrific the way the guitarists played, just great.
Then there was an encore. The next song was 'Flickering Flame' a song about freedom, the lighters flashing, people shouting, Waters clapping, stars shinning. everything was just perfect, the night was just excellent. The Best Rock concert I have ever gone to in my life..
March 22nd 2002 11.00 Our shouts are the only thing that can be heard on the recorder. :o)
Thanks Roger Waters...
The night was great, Roger made us feel like he was at home (specially when they start playing poker, nice touch). I guess many of us miss the big pig flying over our heads, or something more theatrical, but music was what we went for and that's what we got: great opening with "In the Flesh" and immediatly after "Happiest Days..." and "Another Brick... 2", this oppening sounds to me as if Roger had said "ok, this part is the one I HAVE to play, now let's move on to the part I LOVE to play"... and then he drove our brains to the elder Floyd sound, filling the athmosphere with the sound of music and special effects, so to close your eyes and open your wings and fly; the dogs, the pigs, the diamonds, the machine, and a first climax with WYWH-SOYCD 5-9.
Roger and everybody felt at home, so we took a brake. Then, after that time,
began the Time, the Time brought Money, and after the Money came the Monkey
sat on a pile of stones... Marv Albert's voice was there in one of the
greatest moments of the show, with Roger pushing the button and the big
explosion in the screen; after the perfect sense, the miracles, and the
amusement to death, our last hurra was for the great finale: just when we
were in the orgasm of the end of "brain damage-eclipse", "Confortably Numb"
began and the lights, and the wall, and the guitars, yes the guitars...
incredible. "Flickering Flame" was like the "after-great-sex cigar", in
calm, quiet, with everybody in the concert flashing their small candles to
light every corner of the dark...
...just great.
One more thing: In these days, after Sept 11, Roger's messages,
lyrics, concepts, ideas, etc, must be something we (and hopefully the
powerful governments of our world) should pay attention to and think twice about
before supporting any attempt of "destroy the enemy" ("that's what god
wants")(!!!). So, I think this tour should be really meaningful for all of
us...
Since I first knew about Pink Floyd (back in 1982, when a friend of mine gave me the 8-Track cassette of "The Wall", then we got together to watch the Pink Floyd movie on a Beta VCR), I started to get more and more interested about the band (Pink Floyd) and their creative genius Roger Waters. The depth of his lyrics and the explosion of his musical creativity amazed me, and then I decided that one of the things that I MUST do before dying, was that I had to go to a Roger Waters' concert. I missed the 2000 tour of "In The Flesh" tour, but this time I couldn't let it go... I traveled more than two thousand miles (round trip) to be present at his recital, and it was really worth! I also knew about a lot of people who traveled from every corner of our country, and all of them returned home with their hearts full of satisfaction and a smile on their faces.
"The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think... oh by the way, which one's Pink?" I had the opportunity to be present at a Pink Floyd concert back in 1994 (obviously without Waters), and until now, after this awesome encounter, I'm certain to say that definitely, Rog is Pink! He replaced the laser and pyrotechnical circus of Gilmour and company with scenic emotivity, artistic quality, perfectionism, and most of all: ART turned into GREAT MUSIC.
Roger: Thank you very much for coming to Mexico. That night, all of us
witnessed a "Great Gig in the Sky"!
At the very beginning, Rog discovered more than one smoking a joint, and started to play an amazing set of songs at the very place where Pink Floyd performed about seven years ago. Probably, he wouldn't know.
It was a funny thing when Roger made a mistake at the ending of 'Pigs On the Wing' when he sang "...and watching...(he made a face of discontent) ...and watching from pigs on the wing." There was another mistake as well, but now it was drummer Graham Broad's turn, when he got mixed up at the beginning of 'Time'.
The climax -for me- was when 'Dogs' started, I was at 50 meters from the stage on the left side, just in front of the left speakers. All the music blowing my soul, and the barks of all those almighty dogs surrounding the place, grunting and stalking, from the limits of the universe...
A chopper gave a special touch to the show when it was passing over our heads lightining the place more than once.
And they played a slightly different version of 'In the Flesh' than is on the DVD during the second set of SOYCD. It was amazing indeed!!!
Speechless is the right adjective to use about the guitar duel between Chester Kamen and Snowy White playing 'Comfortably Numb' on the upper riser of the stage.
All in all, it was an excellent performance here in Mexico City.
David
