Main Index Tours 2006 Tour '06 European Tour '06 US Tour 'Tour Reviews Help REG

A couple of things off the top of my head (I just got home...)
Was Nick Mason playing drums? He was on the radio the other day in Detroit and I
swear he said he was going to play. The drummer looked like the same guy who
played last time.
The highlights for me were Sheep (my favorite Floyd song... it absolutely rocked
and I recorded a video of the entire song on my digital camera!!!!) Have a Cigar
(it was great hearing Roger Waters sing the song - man - blew my mind) and The
Fletcher Memorial song.
It was also great hearing Dark Side in its entirety with Waters playing - I
remarked to my buddy that I would rather hear Waters play it than hear Gilmore
and bunch - Gilmore's voice can kinda be reproduced and his guitar can be kinda
reproduced but Roger Waters absolutely getting into the music and his
scratchy - not so perfect voice but one deep with emotion cannot be reproduced.
Another Brick in the Wall part 2 sounded a hell of a lot better than when I heard
it during the In The Flesh tour.
I was really concerned about the "politics" of the concert from previous
reviews - I thought Roger Waters was going to stand up there and talk politics
like U2 or maybe Crosby Stills Nash and Young would do but he didn't. He let his
music speak his politics (especially during Leaving Beirut) and the writing on
the now-famous pig (I liked the "Impeach Bush" on the pig's ass - kinda funny!
Speaking of "Leaving Beirut" - I was on edge hearing the song (because of the
previous reviews) because I was worried that people were going to "boo" but I
didn't hear a single one. As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed the song with
the comic graphics and the line about George (Bush) getting fucked up by his
texas education - a bunch of people were laughing. Hell, I voted for the dude and
I still laughed my ass off!
There were a couple of assholes in the crowd - one guy screamed, "Play Money!"
when Waters played a few tunes from The Final Cut (if you are reading this,
asshole - the concert was called "The Dark Side of the Moon" so you must have
known that the song was coming) and the other assholes were the 2 people who
stood all concert blocking many views (around the 224 suite - you assholes know
who you are - people kept asking you to sit down and there was a dude 15 feet away
from you (me) yelling, "Sit down, assholes!")
All in all, it saddens me that this will probably be my last time experiencing
Roger Waters live - unless I decide to get tickets for the Cleveland show
(probably won't, though) unless the miracle happens (you know which one I'm
talking about.)Maybe they'll agree to tour together again if we leave Iraq???
Something to consider...
All in all, great concert. My buddy last saw Waters during the Radio Kaos tour
around 20 years ago - one that he called the best concert he ever went to - until
today, that is.
This was my second time seeing Roger Waters in concert - the first was in 2000 in
Nashville, TN (see my review) but it was great seeing him in "Detroit Rock City"
I liked Doyle better as a singer than the guy who did Gilmore's parts - whoever he
was, did a great job playing guitar, but his voice was kinda high-pitched.

Roger and crew performed the hell outta each song. Dave Kilminster was unbelievable during Have a cigar, Sheep , Any colour you like as well as Comfortably Numb. The ladies looked and sounded amazing, I was only dissapointed having heard late last week on a Detroit radio station that Nick was coming here to play Darkside for the 2nd half and he didn't! Not sure exactly what happened but the show went on without a hitch!
GREAT GREAT visuals, effects and the quad sound was top notch. Roger sounded amazing... You would never know this man was 63 the way he sounded. The setlist was the same as the previous shows and what can I say I'm sitting here back at my place in COMBER ONTARIO CANADA, having a tasty Molson CANADIAN thinking about what I just saw, and man I'm still in awe.
Cant wait to see him again in Toronto on Wed night. Amazing amazing show ladies and gentleman. Whoever gets a chance to go see this "CREATIVE GENIUS "behind the FLOYD better go, cuz time is ticking ...LITERALLY!!!!
Thanks for
lettin me babble..CHRIS>.. Your site rocks!
I was VERY disappointed in Roger using this show to air his political views. As a
foreigner in my country, making money from American's, I did not appreciate him
insulting the US in any way.
Irealize that sending this to you will not help, as apparently you are as
misinformed as he is.
Maybe the horror of what happened here on Sept 11, 2001 has been forgotten by
you, as well as all the other attacks leading up to that day, but I assure you
that I have not forgotten. If you think for one minute that a pacifist attitude
towards these people will make them leave us alone, you are sorely mistaken. I
beg you to dig deeper and really study what they are about. Take the time to
learn.

I saw Roger Waters last night. It was wonderful. I had the good fortune to sit
next to a young man whose father had attended the Pink Floyd DARK SIDE OF THE
MOON concert at Olympia Stadium in Detroit thirty-three years ago. His father
had given him a pair of tickets to this show & I was happy to be able to share
with him my impressions/recollections of that 1973 show.
From the moment the giant arm tuned the giant radio into Chet Baker's rendition of FUNNY VALENTINE, until the end of the DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, the program was captivating and exciting.
I had to leave before the encores, but what I saw in those two hours or so will stay with me for years. The medley of SET THE CONTROLS FOR THE HEART OF THE SUN segueing into SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND was both hypnotic and heart-wrenching.
The sound-system was absolutely perfect and the special effects were extremely entertaininig. Like many in the crowd, I would have liked to hear more of the spooky old Floyd material; but, all-in-all I'd say a great time was had by all. It was one of the best (if not the best) concert I've seen in the past forty years.

It may be ironic, but no accident, that Roger has started each show on his last two tours with 'In the Flesh?'. Some in the audience may think and feel they are going to see a Pink Floyd "surrogate band". I hope they leave knowing that Roger Waters WAS and STILL IS the Pink Floyd!
The video that accompanied 'Leaving Beirut' was very well done. It perfectly conveyed the message to all those that had not heard it before. One of the benefits of living in a "blue state" is that this song was very well received. Not only was there no booing - but when the song ended, the crowd rose to their feet as one in applause (but were cut short as the stage quickly went dark in preparation for 'Sheep'. And yet again the video that accompanied this song was also spot on! After having a tear come to your eye in 'Leaving Beirut' you get the impression in you minds eye that these sheep are conducting a photo recon on the farmer (and all pigs in general). I found it quite humorous. And the floating Pig! It was classic. You just have to smile when you realize Roger is using graffiti by the Animal Farm's sheep as a warning to us that fear leads to walls between people.
The Dark Side was superb. The band got to work and did not disappoint. The vocals for Great Gig in the Sky were absolutely untouchable by any other rendition since the original by Clair Torry. It was essentially a "note for note" recitation - hair raising, spine chillingly, unbelievable!
It's clear that the accompanying videos show that Roger has 'taken the gloves off' and hits you over the head with the meaning of HIS songs (assuming you're not too stoned to understand the videos!). During 'Time', it shows a guy in his car rolling and smoking a joint while he is 'kicking around in his home town', not realizing that 10 years have gotten behind him. And instead of a shiny mirror ball during 'Comfortably Numb', the video shows us the true warning of what accompanies the 'glory' that being in this state brings.
Considering the choice of songs and the visuals, this show is actually quite blunt for Roger. I wonder if the current state of the world is such that the 'sheep' in him just wants to strike out?!
Go see this show!
I have to say a couple of things about the "political song" and the negative reaction from some "fans" on this site from previous concerts (and the couple of boo'ers I heard last night). Ummmm, which political song bothered you folks. I think the only reason you didn't like his new song "Leaving Beirut," and you say you like his music, is you never listened to the actual words on anything before, but since he put these on the screen (which was a great way to do a new song, tied in with the almost comic book story, too cool artistically) you were forced to pay attention for once. Before you try to tell Roger what to play (as if you have the right, you bought a ticket to see him perform whatever he felt like performing your $ does not buy the man nor his incredible talent, you are renting a spot to sit and listen and see - period) you should have tried listening to his music, then this would not have been a surprise. Although some Floyd music is not "political" Roger's stance for peace and against war is clear in ...Floyd's Us and Them from Dark Side, Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut, and Roger's Amused to Death, plus much more I haven't listed. And you know what, if you don't like his message, go vote your way, it's a call to action and time to choose sides and I am glad someone like Roger is promoting the side I am on.
I've been a huge Floyd fan since I was about 20 (now 27), so I had huge expectations going into this. Roger Waters exceeded every single one of them. I was up in the stands, sort of side stage, but the way the Palace of Auburn Hills is set-up, and the stage itself, it's probably safe to say, no one had a bad seat.
The vibe was awsome, with people there from all age groups, tons of intensity. The song set was pretty much what was played in other shows, (if you've looked it up, you'll know what I mean.) Starting off with "In the Flesh" (the long version) just gets you so pumped up!! Spotlights were used, which made the floor crowd feel a bit like the scene from the movie. They went NUTS!
Once my all time favorite was played, "Have a cigar", I was a happy girl, but the hits just kept on coming. The tribute to Syd Barrett was also nice to see, as "Shine on .." was played, as well as "Wish you were here".
Roger was fantastic, he played bass, guitar. He was the center of attention all the while sharing the stage with his band mates. He walked around that stage all night, at times playing directly for us that were at the top, and relied mostly on the big screen for a good view of the master (by the way, he looks great?).
Dark Side of the Moon was amazing!!!!!!! After a 15 minute intermission (they were very punctual) they started, and the sound was noticeably louder, which was great. My opinion was that it was flawless, downright awesome. The guitarists rocked, totally nailing Gilmore's solos, in "mOney" and "Time". And "Great gig in the Sky" was phenomenal. That girl has some lungs on her! It was just amazing.
The whole show was so surreal, and I still can't shake this feeling that I was in the presence of greatness, and how fortunate I am to have seen and heard my favorite artist of all time. It's even got me looking up his solo material, which is similar to Floyd material. Since Waters was behind most of the Floyd signature stuff, it makes total sense.
I sat for 3 hours and listened to songs that helped shape my views on so much, and that were written before I was even born! So I tell it like it is, IT ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!
Roger shared his views on world leaders and
current affairs, through song and "visual aids". I am
Canadian, but saw the show in the US of A, and saw the
discontent on people's faces, as some of them had the
balls to yell out "You Suck Roger", to which a bunch
of us turned around and returned the favor. We were
not impressed. And apparently neither we're they. The
truth must have been too much to bear. As images of
Bush and Saddam holding hands we being shown on the
screen, this family of four quietly walked out....
Loved the entire show, from start to finish. The crowd was very respectful of Roger Waters, except when he did a solo, I think from some new material, and everyone just started walking around. That was rude!!
The lead guitarist was incredible, vocals and all!!! I'm not sure I remember his name, but I'm going to look him up. The band all worked together very well!!! I was waiting for something that would disappoint me, and nothing did. Every song was top-notch.
As far as everyone talking about political viewpoints... no matter what your party affiliation is, or who you support and don't support, these artists are always going to voice their opinion. I did hear some boos after the Beirut song, but I thought that he really made his point without being as overpowering as CSNY, who really were "in-your-face" during their last show.
I went away from this concert in awe of Roger Waters, I evensaw a lady crying after the show. What a talented artist, who still has his voice and knows how to perform live. I am so honored to have been able to see him - a living legend - and I can't wait for another opportunity to see him again. This was truly a Pink Floyd lovers dream concert!!! THANK YOU ROGER WATERS AND BAND!!!!

What can be said about Dark side of the moon. Right when the heart beat started the chills came and they did not leave. Amazing, and brilliant. I thought 'In the Flesh' was a great opener.
Now of course the political side of it. For me, I do not fully agree with Roger and some of the stuff was down right stupid. But I am not going to leave the show because of it. Look I did not care for leaving Beirut, not because of the message, I could give a shit man, the song in my opinion just was not that great, I would have rather heard Roger cover Arnold Lane or See Emily Play, that would have been time well spent. Look the bottom line is, Roger can do whatever he damn wellpleases - its his show, God Bless Him, and there was some good points in his message, and then there weren't. I am one with an opened mind, however, democrats are not better than Republicans or vise versa. The wholegovernment is corrupt and always will be.
Sorry for that, all in all great show, I am glad I went, this is a must for
everyone who likes anything Pink Floyd. Will we ever see the miracle happen? I
have this feeling we will, but in my heart I know that fans like myself who have
come to love Pink Floyd within in the last 10-15 years, we will not see the four
again. Such a shame, they could really shake the world. Thanks for the night of
memories Roger, you are a true genius.
Cheers.
Some of the high-lights for me were, 'In The Flesh, 'Set The Controls', The Final Cut medley, most of Wish You Were Here, all of the DARK SIDE OF THE MOON... wow... the whole concert was a Highlight...
One of the best moments for me was when I was
standing in the beer line while Roger was singing the song' Wish You Were Here'
...everybody standing in line plus the people behind the counter were all
singing along word for word... Amazing!
