From the Los Angeles California Show
Oct. 5th 2006 at the Hollywood Bowl

From: Dave Frevele
Excellent show, better than In The Flesh, Radio KAOS, and Pros and Cons. Set list matched previous American dates and Nick Mason really did come out and play the whole Dark Side of the Moon set plus encores. The band shined, particularly Dave Kilminster's guitar, and doubly so for Carol Kenyon's superb singing that fully does the late Doris Troy justice. Truckloads of weed got used under an appropriately full moon, jeez, all of Humboldt seemingly got torched but still the crowd was respectful. And overjoyed. What a superb show.

I hope he didn't feel inhibited since politics got only the briefest mentions. For purists, I suppose it's not quite as perfect as when he and Gilmour were together, nor did it have quite the militaristic precision of The Wall. For us there, though, enjoying Perfect Sense, Sheep, Brick part 2 and the Dark Side of the Moon, it was truly wonderful. No one could sit during the encore at all. And where do pig balloons land after concerts at the Hollywood Bowl? The costumed butcher marched around with it on a long tether, then released it.

May God keep and bless the soul of the late Roger Keith Barrett and his friend from the Tea Set, Roger Waters for all the pleasure they've given.

This was my second Roger Waters show. My wife and I saw him in 2000 at Irvine California.

The show was great even from the nose bleed section. The sound was not as loud compared to previous concerts I've been to, but the quality was excellent. I don't know if this was how Roger's show was meant to sound or if it was a Hollywood Bowl thing. My wife said it was quality of sound over quantity of sound. The surround effects were great (especially on Sheep and On The Run).

The production values were fantastic. The videos shown during songs was great. The Radio, Bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label, and prolific references to smoking and how it tied into Comfortably Numb at the end was a surprise to me and created a sense of narrative for the whole show. Extra kudos there! I left the show with a feeling of satisfaction not unlike seeing a great movie. Roger and his band really did aim to please. I saw him grinning on the video screen as "Political Pig" floated into the L.A. night.

I do understand how the politics of the show and its imagery could offend many. But I don't see how Roger has ever changed, staying true to his original beliefs about war and politics. So anyone who just wanted to show up and see Dark Side and not hear any "bleeding heart liberal garbage" should consider reading the lyric sheets of what they have been listening to for the past 30 years. Pink Floyd and Roger Waters have always been an anti-war act since, well Corporal Clegg. The war on terror does not get a pass from Roger. Either go and enjoy yourself or sell your tickets to someone who would rather go.

If there are any tickets for any of the remaining shows I highly recommend picking them up and going, even if they are nose bleeds!

Oh if any conservatives who are easily offended would like for me to take some tickets to the Oct 8th show off their hands, just send me an email!
Thanks!
Tom

I'm a long time Pink Floyd - Roger Waters Fan. I do not belong to any clubs or such, but I have seen The Wall in Los Angeles, CA.Momentary Lapse of Reason in Toronto, Canada, and also in Pasadena, CA. But I had never seen Roger Waters post Pink Floyd. I've enjoyedthe Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking andRadio KAOS,but missed out in seeing Roger perform live. After tonight's showI know that I have been missing a GREAT DEAL.

The Wall was so spectacular, I think that if I could have seen it all 7 days maybe I would have taken in all the special effects that were performed. The songs from the Wall, Animals, WishYou were Here and Dark Side of The Moonhave given mean better understanding of life's hardships and that I am not alone having a hard time dealing with them.PinkFloyd without Roger Waters was okay, but there wassomething missing. Because I had enjoyed Dark SideOf The Moon, WishYou Were Here, Animals, The Wall and The FinalCutfor so many years I was left with a less than normal appreciation of Momentary Lapse of Reason. Well tonight I found out exactly why I've felt way. Roger Waters is "PINK".

The show tonight gaveme the same thrill of being at the show as The Wall did. There were thespectacular special effects, the band knew the music and performed it beautifully, the woman that does the solo on the Dark Side of The Moon is amazing. I'd be willing to bet that this is the same person that recorded the original version back in the 70's. She has such a beautiful voice. If she's not the same person that recorded the original, she must have practiced long and hard because I couldn't find any flaws in her performance.

I'm so glad that Imade it a point not to miss this show. I thought I'd never see the Dark Side Of The Moon album performed after the band broke up. But I was wrong, Roger Waters and his band did what the remade Pink Floyd band could not. Their performance gave me all the same emotions and pleasure the original recordings have given me. I'll end this with praise for Roger's new song about Lebanon (Leaving Beirut). I would love to know how I can get a copy of it.
Sincerely,
Laurie Miranda

WOW WOW WOW... When I was a child, I went to my first Pink Floyd show in Los Angeles. That show was at the old sports arena where the chief of police Darrell Gates lit a fire in Roger Waters that never left. That next year the Floyd penned 'Pigs' and as well my headspace was changed forever. Last night I saw Roger Waters at the Bowl in Los Angeles and this fix should last me until I'm dead and gone. I'm jolted... I'm speechless... I'm moved and i didn't want to talk, or walk out of the Bowl, nor ride home. Then I dreamed.

Went to the 1st show at the Hollywood bowl last night. 32 years after the 1st time seeing Floyd do Dark Side of the Moon. Knowing that Nick was joining him made it special for me. Anticipation was almost too much. Then the show started.

I remember reading the reason Roger left his friends. They had just turned into a background band. Nobody wanted to listen to the music. Just party and say they went to a Pink Floyd show. I've had the honor of seeing Pink Floyd 8 times. 4 with Roger and 4 without. Always a class 1 show. Almost the entire row in front of me were taken up by a group of friends and family that weren't probably alive when Dark Side came out. They couldn't care less about the band or the people around them enjoying the aura of what should have been a premier experience.

Doesn't seem like anything has changed about the audience Roger. Still, being able to share in the night was great. Until!!!! You decided to get on some kind of political soap box and blame the worlds problems on the very country thats offered you both open arms and a great bank account. Although the experience of hitchhiking thru Lebanon at 17 was enough of an experience to want to write a song about, the world was a great deal different back then. So when you suggest that we all just want to kill Arabs, and this is due to the christian right, then you've lost your sense of reality. Maybe you could write a song about the people who lost their lives on September 11th because of the people that want to kill us just because of who we are. Is it really going to come down to you losing a mate somewhere in the world before you realize that we weren't the ones that started this whole thing. I don't know if you are still in this country, the USA, but if you are, become a citizen and vote with the rest of us. We are not stupid. We can descern right from wrong. When to stand, and when to sit down. Do I like all that has transpired with this war? NO. But I still believe that the God, that you want to dishonor, is still in control. Please don't come into my house and bad mouth me. Our fathers fought and died alongside your dad also. Something that we're notproud of, but knew it was nessessary.

Bringing Nick to play at some of your shows was a nice jesture, but it really would have been special if your crew had turned on the kit mikes. The start of Time was the only time you could hear anything he did. Being a drummer, that just made me sad for the whole event. You can still screw your friends right in front of them and be alright. Congrats Roger. And for playing Dark Side again without the rest of your friends, well you've made it if all you wanted to accomplish was to be a great cover band. Maybe you could tour with the Australian Pink Floyd show. They are just as good!!! Pink Floyd to me will always include David, Richard, Nick, andSid. Not just Roger. Even seeing David ealierthis year, he talked of peace also. But did it with a lot of class and understanding. You certainly have lost the respect of this fan. Print this if you have the nerve.
Thanks, Bob.

Great concert long time fan... I've been buying Pink Floyd albums since I was 12 and absolutely adored the tribute to Syd. Great selection of songs, almost didn't miss David, Have a Cigar was weak missing the groove, but still all and alla great show except for the anti-Bush and anti-Christian slogans.

I came to see Dark Side of the Moon, not a twisted political campaign. That bummed me out, especially the Christian bashing. The family in AfghanistanRoger spoke of are exactly the type of Muslims that have been abused, used and neglected by their so called leaders. I believe in peace,Roger said "We knew what we were fighting for in WWII", the radical Islam compares to Nazi fascism not Christianity. We are fighting for our children today.

I loved the concert especially the 1st half. I have one word for the people that were upset by RogerÕs political statement. ItÕs also the one-word title of the song he played right afterward, ÒSHEEPÓ.

Folks. I have seen Roger 7 times (1999, 2000, and 2006). I happen to be a Christian who is also moderately conservative politically. Thus, I differ with Roger's views on many things ( e.g. Socialism - which is humorous for a multi-millionaire like Roger whose 'country' home is in the Hamptons. LOL. e.g.'broad stroke'ÊAnti-War position etc.).

But peoples. Can we enjoy each other for our differences please? Can we appreciateÊthe man'sÊgenius and his passion. Can we remember how so much modern music is totally hollow when it comes to having anything intelligent or provocative to say?Ê

I am a film lover but I probably disagree with at least half of the viewpoints taken in the films I see. I probably disagree with 90% of the political views of the movie directors. But I enjoy the interaction of ideas - yes even if they conflict with my own. That's after all how we learn and grow and how our great nation was formed.ÊÊ

Excellent concert that gave me goosebumps and brought me to tears.

One last thing. Roger, as a committed socialist could you 'redistribute' some of that pocket change (how about a simple million)Êmy way? LOL.

I caught the opening of Roger & Company at the Hollywood Bowl (the first of three sold out shows). Despite missing the first few songs, thanks to getting out of work later than I anticipated, plus a jam-up on the Highway 101 getting there, IÕd have to say the show was really excellent.

IÕll leave it for others to post the set list, but suffice to say there were many highlights, including Nick Mason joining the band for Dark Side in its entirety; the as-usual excellent band of regulars (Graham, Andy, Ian Rictchie on Sax, PP Arnold, Katie and Carol on vocals, Snowy, Jon Carin, and RogerÕs son Harry on Keyboards),and special kudos for Dave Kilminster on guitar (whom I had never heard before), who was VERY impressive - a bit less bluesy than Doyle Bramhall on the prior tours, but Dave got this amazing raw tone in his solos that really brought something to the table and enhanced the tunes.

By now youÕve probably heard about the giant inflatable pig with ÒImpeach Bush Now!!!Ó written on its ass (among other messages, including some encouragement to vote on Nov.. 7). After being walked around the lower part of the Bowl, the pig was released and floated over the hill toward West Hollywood - I hope nobody crashed their car on Sunset Blvd. from looking up and seeing such a bizarre sight - but hey, there was a great full moon that night so something special was in the air (aside from flying pigs). If weÕre lucky, hopefully someone got a picture of it because it was a striking sight against the backdrop of the full moon.

Dark Side was made particularly special by the use of a surround sound system that was set up 360 degrees around the bowl ( I was sitting about 2/3 of the way back and the mix was quite clear, and the sound effects were great). Hopefully, Roger had some shows filmed/recorded on this tour (I canÕt imagine why he wouldnÕt, given the significance of the event), and will put this out on DVD, particularly for those who missed it, because it was really something to see and hear.
