Tonight Roger Waters brought his band to a packed Madison Square Garden. They
performed the same set as posted here at earlier US gigs. The first half featured
great versions of Have A Cigar and Sheep. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The
Sun, accompanied by black and white footage of Syd and the band-and SYD was
special.
Another very touching moment was when Roger spoke of the names being recited
yesterday as we reflected on5 years passing since the world and the town housing
his favorite hall to perform in remembered. He then dedicated Wish You Were Here
to everyone lost. His anti-Bush/Blair/war song -Leaving Beirut was met with a
great response. I was very happy to see/hear Roger singing lead the entire first
set; I believe on the last tour Dogs was sung by the guitarist-got to hear him
sing Sheep with all its rage!
INTERMISSION
Then it got very special - Roger stepped up to the mike and - "I'd like to bring
an old friend of mine and yours, I hope!!, to join us for some old stuff"We
got treated toanother Pink, as Nick Mason joined the band andplayed drums for
the second set - The Dark Side Of The Moon, and the encores! It was a very special evening
indeed. Seeing/hearing Nick bash away at his skins at the opening of Time was
priceless. The Great Gig was sung beautifully by Katie Kissoon. All the
lights and lasers were there and the quad sound was crystal clean. Everyone in
the arena was on their feet as the final lyrics to Eclipse were sung. Perfect.
The band returned for some Wall encores with the audience singing along pretty much
all night - and Roger and Nick embraced at the endremembering what it
was like to play the Garden -again.
With David having Rick in his band earlier this year and Nick joining Roger in
the city, it was if I actually saw a flying pig... errr... ahhh... Pink Floyd
concert-sort of.
When does 1/2+ 1/2 not equal 1? When it is Pink Floyd...
Upon first looking towards the darkened side of the arena, one's eye is drawn to the large objects visible on the stage. It's not completely obvious right away, that the objects are not large still life props, but are being projected onto a huge screen behind the stage.
It's about 50 feet wide, by 25 feet tall, and it has such detail, that to say High-Def, is an understatement.
The 8PM sharp time turned into an 8:19 start, after a long video segment showing a hand tuning an old radio. Again the projected image is very realistic, but the theme is used all night, and could have been done a bit better. Although it worked perfectly between "Have a Cigar" and "Wish You Were Here." The set list remained unchanged from other U.S. shows. "Mother" as a second song slowed the crowd, in my opinion. Another up-tempo song like "In the Flesh" would have kept the energy up. The sound was also a bit muddy until "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun." Again the video is stunning, a huge improvement over Roger's last tour where stills were shown. Ah, CG and concerts, what a great idea. "Have a Cigar" rocked.
"Leaving Beirut" was interesting. With its well-known anti-war lyrics done up in comic book fashion for all to read. It received several rounds of applause during the song, but when over, it was greeted with strong boos and even a few Fuck You's thrown in. But the other half of MSG roundly agreed with Roger. So it was about 50-50 cheers & boos.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the choice to follow "Leaving Beirut" with "Sheep" is a strong message in and of itself.
After a rocking Sheep (complete with Radio Controlled flying pig) Roger says, "We're going to take a 15 minute break, and come back and play Dark Side of the Moon." Insert thunderous applause here.
Ah, the Moon. Roger introduced a good friend to help out, "Mr. Nick Mason." Another huge cheer. "On the Run" had the best video of the evening, highly psychedelic, accompanied by building rattling synth bass, clock like beats, and "Rear" speakers. I though someone had slipped me some blotter. Perfect.
All in all, Dark Side was great to hear in one sitting, or more accurately standing. Since most of the house stood for nearly three hours. What a fun night to be in what Roger called "A great room".
Thank you Roger.
The set list was awesome, even with "Leaving Beirut," which is his personal feelings, and that is his right and was fine with me.
The wall had us all singing and standing in our seats. His back up vocals, especially the young ladies, were phenomenol.
We got to see rock icons at their best with Nick Mason accompanying the band during the entire Dark Side of the Moon.
If you get the chance, go see this rock legend! You will not be disappointed!

Than came the nightmare, Roger Waters begins the anti-american, anti-bush, anti-war propaganda. He first dedicates a song to the victims of 9/11 and then proceeds to tell us the is was taken in by a family in Lebanon. Which is all well and good but then this anti-american pompous ass hole decides to fly a pig around with "NY don't be lead to slaughter - vote nov 2nd".
If that lovely family knew that Roger sang rock music and flew pigs he would probably of had his head cut off. Because the people that he so cares for don't approve of rock music and pigs it is against their religion and that's a pure fact.
Where was Roger when the towers came down, I am sure he wasn't here like I was. How many people did he know that died in the radical muslim attacks on the United States of America. I am sure not as many as I knew.
Then, on the 5 year anniversary, theday after the attacks 9/12. This aging ass hole brings his half ass political views to the very city that had lost so many family members and friends.
By the way if America hadn't saved his country from the Germans, he would be speaking german if not be alive at all. The Germans had this thing about mass extermination.
Why doesn't he have a concert in a muslim country and fly the pig around with anti-muslim slogans. I sure they would love him and embrace him.
After being a long time Pink Floyd fan since the 70's, I now look upon them with disdain and disgust.
I know everything America does is not perfect, and that "all" politicians are not honest and do all the right things.(By the way, why didn't he show Clinton or Kennedy on the screen), but we are at war with people with very evil views and dealing with non-democratic governments. These countries are living as if it were 2000 years ago and it is time to bring them into the 21st century.
Roger "the ass hole" Waters can keep his views to himself or talk of them publicly on his own dime and his own time. I don't need to sit through his pompous views and pay for him to do it.
I will donate the same amount of funds I spent on this bullshit concert to a 9/11 fund, it will make me feel like I have taken my money back from this very large ass hole and done some good with it.
People need to start waking up and smell the coffee, there is no one to negotiate with it, is time to set the wheels of change in motion and there is no pretty way to do it. It can take hundreds of years but you have to start somewhere it does not take a genius to realize this. But it does take an ass hole not to realize the truths.

I don't agree with much of his politics either, but I have seen him many times and
will continue to, because his music is simply awesome. America stands for free
speech and thought and that is what we are fighting for. So, I have no problem,
as do most others in allowing him to speak his mind. One songcertainly didn't
ruin the show for me at all!
First, why would anyone who claims to be a Floyd fan for decades now be "disgusted" by RW. It's the same pig that flew at MSG in July '77; I was there. Why did you go to the show Sal? Did you ever listen to the lyrics? Do you understand them?
Roger Waters isn't supporting terrorism, he condemns it. Part of his genius is reflected in his ability to articulate that the lies and incompetence of the Federal government fuel terrorism by enraging countries that have been peaceful friends of the US for many decades. Where there is less meddling, there are fewer problems. You think that the lifestyle in the UAR is from the 1st century?
Sal, if you and anyone who thinks like you, feels that you know where to go in the world and who to fight in order to make the planet safer then you should go do that. Attacking Roger Waters is not the answer. It's very sad for the US that people who profess to be Pink Floyd fans think like this.
By the way, the pig is an uncomplementary metaphor, so I doubt he's worried
about offending Muslims.
A lot of the audience booed it at the end, but me and my husband thought the song and the visuals were great. Roger W. is a bit outspoken with his opinions and politics, but hey, freedom of speech, and all that, blah, blah, blah. The side of the floating pig had some political jargon on it about "don't get led to the slaughter, vote on November 2nd.
The floating astronaut was kind of creepy. It looked like it was a real dead guy floating out in space. For Dark Side of the Moon, Nick Mason came on stage and helped out on drums. That was a nice surprise. I saw David Gilmour back in 1994 for the Division Bell Tour at Giants Stadium and hedid the wholeDark Side of the Moon album also. So it was interesting to compare the two concerts. It's hard to say who was better. They were both great shows.
P.S. Do you know of a site where I can buy tee shirts from the U.S. tour? I've
looked and looked and they only show two from the European tours. We didn't have
time to buy shirts and they had a lot of nice ones.
The only drawback was the political/Anti-war stuff (I'm a republican so I get sick of it), but I know Roger has always been anti-war and not just "jumping on the bandwagon" like some other performers. Lust." But I understand those are David's songs.
The concert was one of my favorites and I just hope it's a "warm-up" to a Pink Floyd reunion tour. Lust." But I understand those are David's songs.

Roger's voice sounded better than ever, and the girls were absolutely heart stopping. During 'Sheep,' a giant pink Pig came from the side of the arena and was flying above the crowd. As the pig moved around there was hand printing on the pigs ass that read "IMPEACH BUSH"... and the crowd went nuts. The concert was very political and really left us all thinking.
I am going to the concert on Saturday nite in Camden, NJ, and I am taking my wife and 2 sons who are 11 amd 13 years old. I think their first concert should be seeing the greatest performer and song writer in the world. My sons are really pumped up and looking forward to their first conert.

(Sammy... Leaving Beriut can only be purchased over the Internet.
It is available on Apple's iTunes site. It should be available on other sites as well, maybe like
the Sony site. Google it. You'll have to burn it to CD yourself. Michael Simone

Rather than take you through a song-by-song breakdown, I will say that the sound system took us at times to an out of body place, the set list was awesome (we really didn't need to hear Roger's new Bush-bashing songs, but hey, all artists need to vent their agendas. They are, after all, artists) The band sounded phenomenal... while it would have been awesome to have David Gilmour there, the guitar and vocal void he left was filled with precision.
I can't wait for a live CD of this tour!
