Tour Reviews

From the San Francisco California Show
Oct. 10th 2006 at the Shoreline Amphitheater

From: Kree Seymour
One of the best shows I have seen in my life!!! I missed the first set... I know that Shine On and Wish You Were Here were highlights of the first set... I would love to get a set list.

There were so many great parts of the show. One was the large pink pig balloon that they sent out over the crowd. It was your classic political pig... on his rear was IMPEACH BUSH NOW. I would love to see pictures of it!!! It floated around the crowd for a bit and then they released it into the sky. As it floated away, any tension that was left was released. I cant imagine who will find that pig and when... but it was monumental!

I was also impressed by Roger Waters dedication and energy. I thought after all these years he would be over it... but it seems like he really has a good time. One of the best shows I have ever seen. I hope I have the privilege of hearing live Pink Floyd again!

The headline should have been "The Pig! The Pig!" as Roger Waters' huge inflatable pig was accidentally let loose to float into outer space - or at least Mountain View, CA airspace - during the last song of the first set this evening.

An evening that kicked off promptly at 8.30 and featured classic Floyd gem's throughout the night. Roger commented after that last song of the set, "Sheep", "Can someone tell me what happened to my pig? Ah, shit happens." And after only a 15 minute intermission Roger and the band came back out to play through the entire Dark Side of the Moon album.

Surprisingly, Roger wasn't all that talkative during the show - not a single mention of the late Syd Barret who passed away only a few months earlier. And not really anything about the current Bush/Iraq/Afganistan war - although there was plenty of imagery throughout the night that linked Bush to Kim Jong Il, Hussein & Stalin.

Speaking of imagery, I was extremely impressed with the visuals Mr. Waters put together for this tour. In a nutshell, Roger combined crystal clear, crisp video (maybe high-def stuff?) to play on a screen behind the band while adding some pyrotechnics throughout the show as well. Very nice stuff. Plus, quadraphonic sound from speakers that were set-up throughout the ampitheater - which added a nice ambiance to the musical performance!

Now for the meat of the review - the performance. Roger has definitely aged gracefully - at 64 the guy still looks and sounds great - considering. The first set largely focused on songs that Roger was comfortable singing and from what I could tell, he only really had a tough time with "Have a Cigar" - and to tell you the truth, he could have been lip syncing during that one. They had a strange effect applied to his voice during that song, and it seemed that his lips were just a bit out of sync with the vocals coming out of the speakers, so he could have been faking it a bit since the dynamic range in that song gives even Les Claypool a challenge to sing through! ;) Once Dark Side started, Roger mainly stuck with his bass guitar and let his back-up band and singers do most of the vocals.

Overall, a great show but I could've done with more songs with Roger on vocals and less reliance on his band to fill in on the vocal parts.

Roger Waters: the almost living legend. His performance was spellbinding and he left the entire audience cheering for more. The show in Shoreline, Mountain View...San Francisco... was sold out forever. Fortunately we got our tickets 6 months in advance and it was worth everything. The entire theater was packed and the great Roger Waters was met with a standing ovation.

He started off withIn 'The Flesh' and 'Mother', went on to a few tracks from 'Wish You Were Here,' 'Amused to Death', and 'Animals. Entertained the audience with his strong political views and was simply amazing.

This man carried the show with galore. There were great visuals for the audience, including a flying pig with anti-war slogans. As ever (remember: Us and Them. Another brick in the Wall, Perfect Sense), his message was that of anti-war feelings and was portrayed with memories from the present day scenes from around the world. As he narrated a new song 'Leaving Beirut'...you could feel his anti-war, anti-politics, and anti-republicans views in every bit.

The second set was more of his band members performing 'Dark Side of the Moon' album. He ended the evening with the finale: 'Another Brick In the Wall,' 'Vera', 'Bring the Boys Back Home,' and 'Comfortably Numb'

The performance was amazing, Roger Waters has his charms and he certainly shook some nerves. May this man live long and prosper and give us many more shows!
