The break up of the band came as a shock. I believe they affected my formative
years a lot. My personal heroes? It was not until Syd Barett died last year
though that I realized his tremendous importance in the bands' early years and his
ties to Roger.
Anyway the concert was awesome. Roger looked a little older but the power and
energy he emitted on stage was awesome. The big question to me was... what were
the rest of the band like? They must have fed offf of him or something, because I
could see no weak element of the whole band... some 11 performers I believe. The
strong point was the lead guitar and the back up singers. The drummer, the two
other guitars, the saxaphone (awesome) and the keyboardist created a wall of
sound (and loud) which overloaded the senses. Along with a breath taking light
and effects show which was the best I have ever seen.
The painted pig, the flying astronaut, created the Floyd theme. The second half
playing Dark Side of the Moon took it to an even higher level, every note and
detail was perfect...in true Floydian fashion!
The background screen of the guy sitting alone in a room, smoking, drinking and
listening to the radio was brilliant. I was thinking, was this supposed to
represent Syd Barrett in the early days? Or it could have been me... losing myself
in Pink Floyd and other music. An escape.
I bought my tickets two months early,
so there was no chance I would miss this once in a lifetime event. My last big
concert was The Eagles in 98, and this concert exceeded that.
A final thought; I would like to see a Pink Floyd concert, with Roger Waters.
Without him there is an inescapable void. I hope it happens. On the other hand
Roger should continue the solo act. With this band, it is like their are two Pink
Floyd bands, and two is better than one! Could you tell me if he has a new album or Cd coming
out? I heard one or two of the singles and it sounds great.
Thanks, from a lifelong Waters fan
Grettings from the Edmonton, Alberta concert. June 24. The concert exceeded my expectations. It
blew my mind. I am one of the biggest all time Pink Floyd fans in Canada, going
out on a limb here. I knew Roger Waters was the main driving force behind the
band since it's creation. Dark Side of the Mooon was the first album which drew
my attention back in the mid 70's. I was about 16 then in High school.
