It was an exact replica of last years show - that sums it up pretty well - except for some new lights/lasers and some
newer video footage. Not that that's a terrible thing, but some new songs or at least different ones would have
been great.
I tell you what, when Roger sings - he really puts everything he has into it - heart, soul, sweat
and tears. So intense it was when he sang, his expressions show it all.
I am writing again to you all out there only 10 short months after I saw Roger perform in Toronto last. I
wrote immediately after the show then as I am now.
The first half of the show the sound was off at times but was corrected for The Dark Side.
Roger looked a little tired and rightfully so. Couldn't imagine jumping all over the world for a tour. It only shows how much his music is loved.
For the final night of the tour he sure did rock the house. The sweet smell of the sacred herb was amoungst us and I know the crowd loved every moment of the show. Lots of standing ovations which Roger and the band appreciated greatly. I hope this won't be the last time to see him as I'd go again in a heart beat.

I've seen Roger before (Pros and Cons) and also Pink Floyd the band (sans Waters) so I had an expectation that I had hoped he could live up to. As I said, I was totally blown away. Definitely one of the best if not THE best shows I have seen.
Take your significant other, take your kids, take everyone including your mother in law for crying out loud. This is an experience well worth it even if they have never heard Roger or Floyd before.
Never heard of Waters before ?!?
If that sounds peculiar, let me just say that post show, I overheard a lady talking about how her husband scored some tickets to the show and asked her to go. She had no interest whatsoever and suggested he give the tickets away to relatives. He did.
Just a few days later at a family gathering, someone mentioned that Roger was coming to town. So, remembering her husband's request, she asks, "Roger Waters? You know him?"
"He's THE genius behind Pink Floyd", they explained, and then went on to talk about the history behind it all.
As Pink Floyd was her husband's favourite band (don't ask why her hubby did not mention the Waters/Floyd connection as I don't know) she felt badly and purchased a couple of tickets for them both.
She had no specific appreciation for the music as she had only really heard it periphally when her hubby played the tunes, but after the concert she was a true believer.
My only complaint is that it seemed so short. Was it short ?
No way. it clocked in at 2.5 to 3 hours but if you really love and
appreciate the music and can get "absorbed" for lack of a better word,
time passes quickly (and no, I was not err..chemically induced) no matter
what, you will feel yourself wanting more and more.
Its still a bit of a shocker that he avoids "Dogs" with such regularity and does "Sheep". Is it scorning the "Echoes: the best of floyd"?
Toronto's got a great crowd and most people sang along. Snowy White, the guitarist, sadly will never be David Gilmour, with due respect and Comfortably numb was therefore brilliant, not genius.
Roger did some uncanny ones too - Fletcher Memorial and Have a cigar, still no "Dogs" and no "Echoes" - possibly one of the greatest musical pieces ever composed by man - Gilmour or Waters or Mason or Wright. Sid was missed - its a pity people like me never got to see him ever.
In all, spectacular !
The show was an awesome experience and for those who are Floyd fans and didn't get to the show, you missed an opportunity of a lifetime. I can't imagine he's going to do this for much longer. I hope that a DVD will be available sometime in the near future.
Just a note about the actual organization of the event. For reasons that I haven't been able to attain, every entrance into the stadium had at least 500-1000 people waiting to get in 15 minutes before showtime. Many we talked to said they were waiting for as long as an hour to get in. We ended up missing the first 2 songs of the show, and there were still 1000's of people outside. It was a farce. Nobody who worked there seemed to know anything or cared for that matter. Our gate (14) was actually closed and instead of letting us in at the nearest gate, we were made to walk around to the other side of the stadium where we had only just picked up the tickets. You'd think they might have tipped us off that the gate was closed? Nope. I will never attend another event there. TicketBastards charges us 25% of the ticket price as a convenience fee. The money making machine has gotten out of control. Everybody has their hand in to take a slice of my pie but shunts any sort of responsibility. So where is the convenience?
Welcome to the machine
In the Flesh, Shine On..., Have a Cigar, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Perfect Sense 1&2, Leaving Beirut, Sheep, with Vera - Bring the Boys Back Home - Comfortably Numb, were the highs for me. I Got to meet everybody in the band, even Roger!! for autographs except Andy and Dave (wonder where they hung out?). Snowy is really friendly, got an autograph and picture... what a gentlemen!!!
I've never missed a tour since July 31, 1984 the Pros and
Cons, 14 concerts in 4 countries, and I hope that his new (rock) album is coming out soon
for hopefully another awesome show. Hi to my top mate Jason who I met at the
Providence R.I. In The Flesh 2002 show. Great review of that special night!!!
Poureau,
Well, Roger listened. This show was great. It was worth the $150 to get the good seats. We were center stage in the first section above the floor. The sound was perfect. Each member looking a little older from the In the Flesh tour. Again, The Great Gig was my highlight. Although Sheep sent me on a time warp since Animals is probably my all time favorite. The Video screens let you enjoy the show much more. I like seeing the expressions on their faces as they play the songs that I grew up on. Although, there seemed to be a malfunction with video stream for the last minute or so of the Gig. The band seemed much more relaxed and flowed smoothly from note to note. Dark Side speaks for itself. Unbelievable.
The hanging pyramid with the light spectrum circling the arena was awesome through the thick plumes of cannabis smoke. I had to get our section in the mood during Wish You Were Here. I have heard a lot about the Canadian herb but up to that point nobody was lighting up. As every one was holding their lighters in the air I decided it was time for blunt-o-ramass. Immediately, the entire section started to light up. Not that you needed anything to enjoy this show. But, it sure did enhance the experience.
The radio controlled space man and anti-Bush pig came right over our shoulders. Confetti released at one point mixed with the sound board fog machine and rhythmic light show brought a calming feeling over the crowd.
I rarely see the same show twice. But I made the right choice this time. Hopefully this won't be the last time Roger and I can spend an evening together.
Is there any indication that Roger will put out a DVD of this show to match Gilmour's Dark Side on the Pulse DVD? I wanted to get one of the programs from the Toronto Show. Is there any way to buy one? I saw the tour merchandise site but they did not offer the program guide. It cost $20 at the show.
Till next time,
