To me, tonight was a 'coming home.' My friends and I (who by the way, first
introduced me to Floyd many years ago) sat there in states between aghast, in
awe, raptured, entertained, hypnotised, drunk, stone cold sober and everywhere
inbetween (and there was hardly a drop consumed all night).
Seeing this show was the most unbelievable thing I have seen. While this show had
SO MANY HIGHLIGHTS... - seeing Comfortably Numb LIVE. I have been playing this
song for 10 years at every gig I play and just seeing it performed by the
original artist was heavenly. Seeing 'Shine On performed in front of
me... WOW... Seeing Snowy White right there... man, dream come true. Seeing the
Pink Floyd vocal, guitar, SAX, etc all the licks searing through me, note for
note, was an experince I'll never forget. If it illustrated one thing loud and
clear, and though the fact that I am going to type this will probably be the
reason it never sees the light of day. I'll do itanyway... This show showed me
thatmy world will not be complete until we see a world tour (including Brisbane
Australia) with Pink Floyd and Roger.
I actually thoughtthat I was dreaming when I saw the boys together at Live 8.
The musosRog had with him tonight were out of this world... exceptional in all
regards. I would have paid at leat 10 times what we were charged to see that
show. And likewise, if Floyd with the full lineup ever tour, they can write their
ticket, coz we will pay it, and rightly so, they are the band that defined our
era...
Roger, thanks for touring down here... you made a 30 year dream come
true. Here's to the difference I can make in my next 30...'
Hi all,
'Well, one could say that tonight was a repeat of Melbourne, Sydney and half of
the 2006 tour and that would be perceived as a 'bad thing.'
Snowy White just brilliant as always (if he is not in the top 10 guitar players in the world then there is something wrong). Graham Broard on drums was amazing. Dave Kilminster was just electrifying, and by the end of the show I was saying Doyle who? (big fan of Doyle Bramhall).
And Roger himself, what can you say? I hope he goes on for another 20 years. He is a mystro, has not lost a thing, and if I had the money I would fly to Adelaide to see him again.
Bring on a reunion tour I say - fingers crossed.
Thanks for coming to Brisbane as you and your entourage made many people very
happy last night. Thanks again,
For me, I couldn't wait to hear something from Animals, and he closed out the first half with "Sheep". An excellent song played so well. Not too big a fan of the political message of "Bring David Hicks Home" written on his pig (He can rot in prison as he was caught fighting with a terrorist organisation), but I can overlook that.
The singer who sang 'Great Gig..." was flawless, I had goose bumps. Fantastic
night let down by expensive programs and traffic jams all the way in and home,
but that's not Rog's fault. I just wished I could meet him and see a new FLOYD
album.
I've been to all the great concerts in my life but never have I experienced the quality that we got from Roger and his band than we got in Brisbane.
Roger, you are the man, long may you be around and for all the fans that missed him perform; well all I can
say is this Wish you were here
(Indecently if youre going to the show but don't want to know, stop reading)
Before the show commenced, we were given a little taste of things to come. By that I mean that the 3D effect kicked in, with the arm reaching out for the radio tuner followed by the cigarette and whisky (walkers I believe). This truly was a very thought out and executed visual stunt, a theme that would last the entire night and it must be said, a vast improvement compared to the In the Flesh Tour. The special effects were excellent and I don't want to get bogged down with detail etc etc.
Although the playlist was nearly the same, it was juggled about and that was appreciated I think by one and all.
I have seen Roger Waters four times previously, although the first three were from the previous tour (Dublin, London & Berlin). I found him to be far more engaging this time round and generally he seemed to be very happy himself and enjoying the experience just as much as the fans. This is the most defining aspect of this tour for me over the previous one, the interaction.
The show had the usual strong political themes associated with Roger Waters and given the similarities of all wars; WWI & WWII to present day, the songs from the Final Cut were well received. Perfect Sense 1-2 also highlighted this. In essence the show was put together with all this in mind and it was like watching the news at times, only Roger as the broadcaster! The deep sociological questions are indeed asked of us during this show.
It was an excellent performance with brilliant lights, sound and effects as we have become accustomed to regarding Roger Waters/Pink Floyd.
Something to note, Roger sings very little of Darkside of the Moon and does get a lot of backing vocal help. This has to be expected however given the use those vocal chords have got over the years. His voice is still distinct and clear and most certainly a pleasure to listen to.
To conclude, well worth seeing and if you haven't got a ticket and there are still some available, get one. If not, ebay is your man!!! I can't wait for his new album and hopefully followed by another world tour. Best songs for me were; Sheep, Have a Cigar, Perfect Sense and obviously Darkside of the Moon in its entirety!
Ps. Don't leave after Darkside as the encore is something to behold.
