Well, after the end of the Roger's 07 American tour, there questions as to whether Roger would be performing any shows in 2008, or even continue touring DSOTM. To this Roger Waters management answered a resounding NO. So it was that I was somewhat skeptical when I began hearing reports in late December about 2008 shows in Europe, and again in late January about 2008 shows in the US. As usual, and in order to maintain the credibility our fanclub and website has earned over the last 15 years, REG would not post or publish any information regarding these shows until confirmed by Roger's Manager.
After receiving confirmation, REG announced on our website that Roger would indeed perform several concerts in both the US and Europe.
In late April 2008, Roger Waters will be headlining the Coachella Valley Music Festival near Palm Springs in California and then go to Denver for a show in Colorado, before traveling to Houston and Dallas Texas for two more shows in early May. It makes sense that Roger would perform in these locations as these are all cities and states that were missed in both 2006 and 2007 US tours. Also in early May 2008, Roger will perform at two shows in Europe, one in The Netherlands, and one in Denmark. In February it was announced that Roger would be playing in Granada Spain. In late February 2 more shows were added one in Liverpool England and one in London. In early March a second London show was also announced. No further shows were announced until April 14th when a show in St. Petersburg Russia was announced.
Whether or not these are the only shows Roger will play, or the beginning of a mini-tour is not being acknowledged. However, this may very well mark the beginning of a full fledged new tour to cities that were missed during the 2006 and 2007 tours.
These are the 2008 shows that have been confirmed so far. There may be other shows to be announced in the near future, but REG will not report any shows until they are confirmed by Roger's manager. Stay tuned for more details or information when it is available and confirmed.
It has been reported that all these shows will be Dark Side of the Moon concerts. I know we are all hoping for new material and it would be wonderful if Roger released a new album Spring 2008.
Roger's 2008 tour band will consist mostly of the same performers who traveled with him during 2006 and 2007: Snowy White - Lead Guitar, Dave Kilminster - Lead Guitar and Vocals, Jon Carin - Keyboards and vocals, Harry Waters - Hammond Organ, Graham Broad - Drums, Ian Ritchie Saxophone, with PP Arnold and Carol Kenyon doing Background Vocals. However, a few personnel changes were recently confirmed by Roger's manager. Due to prior bookings for April and May, Andy Fairweather Low and Katie Kissoon will not be able to be a part of the band. Instead, Chester Kamen will be replacing Andy on guitar, and Sylvia Mason-James will be taking Katie Kissoon's place on vocals.
Chester, was Roger's 2002 tour lead guitarist, and Sylvia has worked with Carol Kenyon and PP Arnold and has toured with the Pet Shop Boys, recorded with various artists, such as Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Cher and many more. She also took part in 2005's Live 8 concert. I'm sure the music will be fantastic and equal to the tours of the last two years, but it will be interesting to see how well three top lead guitar ego's get along together on and off stage.
As further information is made available and confirmed, I'll be updating the tour itinerary on our website. We will continue to bring you up to date with the latest news as we know it.
