Though Dicks is in San Diego proper, and the concert is 10 or 15 miles away in Chula Vista, I'm told that Chula Vista has little in the way of 'Party' establishments.And San Diego is happenin!
Dicks - Last Resort is located near the harbor in downtown San Diego, on both 4th and 5th streets,(the pub if you can call it that has entrances from either street). It's more easily seen from the 300 block of 5th St. between J and K streets in downtown San Diego, in the famous 'Gaslamp Quarter'. The Gaslamp Quarter, (up 5th street from the Harbor) is THE most happenin place in San Diego after dark!!

Dicks - Last Resort is hard to describe. It is a indoor/outdoor beer bar, but Completely Unorthodox. No, the floors are not peanut shell or popcorn covered, but covered with bits of trash (cleaned up daily). The place is a hoot,and so are the various T-shirts that can be bought. A real comical place of irepute and character. Dicks is totally, even overly casual with great food, BBQ, ribs, fries burgers, and much more and a huge selection of beer. The motto at Dicks - Last Resort is "You Can't Kill a Man Born To Hang".

From the airport take Harbor Dr. from the Airport and follow the harbor front past the San Diego Convention Center, then turn left into the Gaslamp Quarter, the second left after Kettner.

Beer Quality - Awesome!
Barney's Beanery is the best bar to kick back with your buddies. I went there twice during my 9 day vacation with 2 buddies of mine. We had the best time in all of the vacation here,at the Beanery. The Beer list is out of this world, ranging from many great Trappists ales to regular old Budweiser. The bartenders are very cool (Doc is the man at Barney's). We had a blast at Kareoke, the women there are nice and down to earth. Doc's rendition of "Baby got Back" on Kareoke is a must see. This will definitely be a bar I will go to a lot when I move out to California.

A surprisingly grungy, dive-y beer-bar right in the heart of Yuppy-Land (i.e. the "nice part" of Santa Monica Blvd.) Excellent beer and food, fairly priced. Reminds me of what would happen if the Goat Hill Tavern (Costa Mesa) decided to clean-up it's act a little and move to L.A. Check this place out, but leave the wive/kids at home...! //TSB
